Are you a South Australian Artist? Have you always dreamed of seeing your artwork on an Australian Grain Silo? Well, now is your opportunity!

The District Council of Karoonda East Murray and their creative partner, illuminart, are inviting South Australian artists to submit their artwork to be projected on the Karoonda Silos.

The District Council of Karoonda East Murray have engaged illumination specialists, Illuminart, to permanently transform the Karoonda Silos with digital artwork at night as part of their broader ‘day and night’ silo art project.

To launch the silo project, Illuminart and the community of Karoonda, are offering artists a chance to see their artworks projected onto their silos for a full month of evening projections starting on 16 June 2019.

The contributed artworks will commence at the Colour Up Karoonda festival on Sunday 16 June, to officially launch the project. The month-long period will allow all participating artists or their friends to visit, take photos and enjoy the wonderful spectacle.

Participating artists can find out more at www.karoondasiloart.com.au or buya.illuminart.com.au including information about how they will be credited in the projections, the curating process and how the system will protect their media and copyright.

Karoonda East Murray District’s Mayor, Caroline Phillips, described the ‘day and night’ project as a unique and innovative way for people to come together and enjoy public art in a small, rural South Australian town by day and by night.

“The Karoonda silo art project transpired from the drought which is still affecting our community, and after feedback from our community and local business group it was decided that we needed to Colour Up Karoonda to lift people’s spirits, reinvigorate town pride and to bring people into our community,” explained Mayor Phillips.

The Silo art projections will coincide with Karoonda’s upcoming free community event, Colour Up Karoonda.

“Colour Up Karoonda will bring everyone together to celebrate Karoonda’s resilient community and new silo art, while enjoying live music, family fun entertainment and market stalls,” said Mayor Phillips.

‘Colour Up Karoonda’ will be held on Sunday 16 June 2019 in the main street of Karoonda from 2pm through to 9pm.

Projections will appear on the Karoonda Silos during the evening of the event from sunset until 9pm.

“The Karoonda Silos will then be transformed forever with a unique permanent display of art featuring paint by day and projection by night,” said Mayor Phillips.

This is an incredible opportunity to showcase South Australian artistic talent on the massive Karoonda silos! We thank Illuminart, Viterra and the Federal Government for making this possible.”

On behalf of the District Council of Karoonda East Murray and Illuminart, Mayor Caroline Phillips encourages keen artists to express their interest below by Friday 7 June 2019 at www.karoondasiloart.com.au.

The permanent projection system, content management and projection mapping, have been designed and managed by Karoonda East Murray’s partnering creative company, Illuminart, who are specialists in the field.

This project has been made possible with funding assistance provided under the Federal Government’s Drought Communities Program.
